Liked Drone Video Takes Over Social Media and Hollywood by Mike Ives (nytimes.com)

A drone operator shot an 87-second video in a Minneapolis bowling alley last week to raise support for the business. The operator didnโ€™t expect it to be viewed hundreds of thousands of times on social media, or to win high praise from Hollywood directors.

Liked How to hide from a drone โ€“ the subtle art of โ€˜ghostingโ€™ in the age of surveillance by Austin Choi-Fitzpatrick (theconversation.com)

It would be nice to live in a world with fewer impositions on privacy, one in which law enforcement did not use small quadcopters and the Department of Homeland Security did not redeploy large Predator drones to surveil protesters. And, for people in some parts of the world, it would be nice not to associate the sound of a drone with impending missile fire. But given that those eyes are in the sky, itโ€™s good to know how to hide.

Listened Getting serious about drones from Radio National

It is time to put aside the novelty aspect of unmanned aerial vehicles and start designing domestic drones that are fit for purpose. But how do you regulate a technology that has so many different uses and such varying capacities?

Antony Funnell leads a conversation looking into the current state of drones. One of the interesting examples shared came via Jon Schwindt. He spoke about the use of drones to deliver medical supplies in Rwanda. It is interesting to think about technology beginning in places like Africa. Is this because they have lower standards or is it simply the right fit? I am reminded of Bridge International and the their work in Liberia.
Bookmarked Creative Corner by John Pearce (My Other Blog)

It’s been a case of long time no post however I have just attended the 2018 Digicon at ACU where I shared my updated collection of Digital Toys and things. Here are the slides which list themโ€ฆ

John Pearce has collected a number of resources associated with makerspaces and drones. He always seems to find the right balance between pedagogy and the applications at hand.
