PWAs might look like normal websites on the surface, but they’re backed by a new breed of technology that allows them to act much more like traditional apps, with off-line support, push notifications, keyboard shortcuts, and even the ability to be installed on your desktop or home screen.

  1. @mrkrndvs it’s always so interesting when these types of articles show (around the time of major dev conferences and hardware releases). Back when Nokia started Downloads and had widgets, the same kind of rhythmic words were heard… security and discoverabiltiy weren’t solved in those pieces then. And is still the case now.

  2. @mrkrndvs that’s something good to remember, β€œtechnology is a production with many actors.β€œ

I used to be on the train of wanting widgets/PWAs as well. For some types of applications it makes a lot of sense (for example, microblog). For others (gaming, some finance apps, sketching/drawing) I can see why it’s not as advantageous. Platforms which could leverage both can be helpful for developers; but friction-full for users/consumers as well as platform owners. That might be something which sticks around until the next platform-paradigm shift β€” and reveal itself anew then too πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ
