Listened The Beatles โ€” the early years from ABC Radio National

Itโ€™s been 50 years this month since the Beatles broke up, but their music continues to inspire and excite new generations of fans. We go back to where it all started, to the early years on the cusp of fame in Liverpool and Hamburg, with Mark Lewisohn, the world-recognised Beatles historian and author of โ€˜The Beatles: All These Years โ€“ Volume 1 โ€“ Tune Inโ€™.

Mark takes us from the teenage skiffle years of the late 1950s where they narrowly avoided conscription into the Army, to the first meeting of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, the formation of the band, their ground-breaking harmony singing, playing seven hours a night as a bar band in Hamburg, the early Cavern years, and the arrival of manager Brian Epstein and producer George Martin. And all before 1963.

A discussion of the early years of the Beatles and how things began withย Mark Lewisohn. This summaries Lewisohn’ first instalment in a three volume project.
