Liked I Bought a Ghost Town (Popular Mechanics)

Underwood wasnโ€™t looking specifically for an abandoned mining town. He just wanted something with a rich history, and if you take that approach, youโ€™ll find more inventory. โ€œSomebody just texted me a Craigslist listing for an old library in Vermont that has 50,000 books from the 1700s onward,โ€ says Underwood. โ€œIt has nine rooms, and itโ€™s potentially haunted.โ€

That, he says, is the kind of property with value beyond its rickety structure. โ€œPeople arenโ€™t interested in Cerro Gordo because of the old buildings,โ€ he says. Theyโ€™re interested because it was the largest mining town in California, and itโ€™s the source of so much mystery and lore. โ€œIf I were looking for another property, I would find one like that.โ€
